GRM E30 and Pikes Peak STi Updates

Lots going on in the last week around Vorshlag. We’re in the middle of a 3 week thrash to update Brianne Corn’s 2005 Subaru STi hill climb car before she takes it back to Pike’s Peak for the 2012 running of the event. Not long to install all new suspension, much wider wheels/tires, build custom flares, and replumb the entire car. We have updated the build thread on 5 forums, including here at Vorshlag, showing progress.

The Vorshlag 1986 BMW E30 LSx V8 project is also wrapping up, and we’ve done the last wrenching on that car. The splitter work was wrapped up, registration was procured (its now street legal), the interior was cleaned, and some outside pictures were taken for the soon-to-be-posted online auction for this car. You can see the final prep work in the build thread here on the Vorshlag Forums or on the other 3 forums where it is cross-posted.

75mm Wheel Studs for BMW Back in Stock

If you have been waiting for the Vorshlag 75mm wheel studs for your BMW or Lotus, the wait is over!

Vorshlag has screw-in wheel studs (that replace the dreaded BMW wheel bolts) made in two extended lengths, including 75mm and 90mm. Vorshlag wheel studs have a premium price over the Chinese knock-offs, but they are the least expensive wheel stud for a BMW on the market that is actually made in the USA. We sell them thru various Vorshlag dealers, BMW dealerships, and direct to customers.

We normally sell 1000+ per month, and order them by the thousands from a domestic fastener manufacturer, set to ship on regular intervals. After 5 years of making this part we’ve gotten pretty good at forecasting inventory and meeting demand. So long story short, Vorshlag was due a huge shipment of the 75mm length studs about a month ago but the factory that makes the studs to our prints and specs was backed up, then said it would be another 1-2 weeks. Hey, at least US manufacturers are busy again, right? The back-orders at Vorshlag started to pile up but finally, after a 4 week delay, they arrived today (July 16, 2012). We are shipping dozens of orders out now. Sorry for any delays you may have seen.

New Vorshlag E82 1M Camber Plate

After a lot of engineering hours, test parts, and a pre-production run we finally have licked the BMW 1M camber plate design! Made to work with the OEM springs and struts, this set-up will not alter your ride height or bump travel but WILL give you lots of additional negative camber travel (our tester’s car saw a maximum of -2.8°).

Tracking the 1M (and E92 M3) on stock suspension and alignment restraints will shred the outer tread blocks of the front tires, but this camber plate and OEM perch assembly will remedy that plus give you more neutral handling and lower lap times. The Vorshlag 1M plate is in final testing phases (on the car above) and will be available for sale in the first weeks of August. You can read more about this product, and see a step-by-step installation guide on our forum here.

FedEx Shipping Added

After years of offering many shipping speeds from US Postal Service and UPS, we have now added FedEx shipping options to the Vorshlag online shopping cart. This is an all new shipping option we’ve added to save you money. Check out the FedEx prices on your next online Vorshlag order and let us know what you think.

This includes FedEx’s world famous “Express” options, both domestic and international, as well as FedEx Ground and FedEx Home shipping options. Saturday is a regular shipping day for FedEx Home, which could save you a bundle on shipping parts that you absolutely have to get at your home on a Saturday (UPS is a big upcharge for Saturday delivery). There are some savings to be had over UPS for 1-5 pound boxes shipped FedEx Ground as well, and many regions are 1 day quicker than the brown truck.

Brianne Corns Pikes Peak Subaru STi at Vorshlag

Brianne Corn took her 2004 Subaru STi to Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) in 2011 and came away with a historic class win in the AWD Time Attack class. With the entire mountain road now fully paved there are more racers than ever entered in the race to the clouds, and with that added participation comes added competition.

To raise the performance on this car Brianne brought the Subaru to Vorshlag for some changes and updates to the suspension, wheels and tires, plumbing, and other aspects. We will only have the car for 3 weeks at our shop and will post regular updates to the build thread here on the Vorshlag forum, as well as on some other forums.

Improvements to GRM E30 V8

Our GRM $2011 Challenge winning project car has had some improvements lately, which are discussed in detail on our build thread. This 1986 BMW E30 chassis just turned 25 years old which means it is eligible for Texas’ 25 year vintage exemption from emissions testing, whihc made for an easy safety inspection… now this beast is street legal!

There are been substantial changes and updates to the car from the old $2000 build budget days and now the car sports AST 4100 coilovers, 18×11″ CCW wheels, and some other expensive bits and pieces. One of the last changes we made was adding a front undertray/splitter, which we show how to make in step-by-step fashion, including pictures.

We’re going to have an auction to sell this car soon, so stay tuned!

Vorshlag Mustang wins Optima Faceoff Autocross!

We took our 2011 Mustang GT (S197 “test mule”) to the Optima Faceoff at the Hot Rod Power Tour a week ago, and did surprisingly well. The rules were simple: take your licensed street car, use any 200+ treadwear tires, and run in two days of competition against an assortment of radical and well prepped cars of all types. Muscle cars, GTRs, Lamborghinis, ZR1s, EVOs, and more.

Day 1 of this two-day event had the most insane autocross event we had ever experienced, with TV crews everywhere and crowds of cheering fans. At an autocross. You can check out the latest update in our Mustang build thread for more write-up with results, pictures and videos. Luck was on our side and we managed to win the autocross portion of the event, and placed in the top 10 for the Speed stop event also run that same day. Check back soon for our write-up on the track event, held on Day 2.

Vorshlag at SCCA Spring Nationals

Vorshlag was at the SCCA Solo “Spring Nationals” running our ESP Mustang in the ProSolo and National Tour there. Weather was all over the place, we drove 4 different courses over 4 days, fought a massive push, learned a lot, placed “OK”, then had the hood fly up and smash the windshield. Quite a weekend! The event write-up includes pictures, in-car video, and ideas for improvement. You can read thew two forum posts about the event starting here.

Motons on the Mustang

This installment of our S197 Mustang Project Build Thread covers the installation of new Moton Club Sport 2-way coilovers onto our 2011 Mustang GT, as well as a host of other upgrades (higher spring rates, etc). We tested the new set-up at a local autocross soon after and saw some noticeable gains – where Amy dominated our class and set 2nd fastest time of the event. Starting to see some good results after switching from STX class (and skinny 265mm street tires) to ESP (with 315mm R compounds). Wonder if going to even wider tires would continue these gains?? Check back next time to see that test…

We also discuss the upcoming AST 4150 and show the newly arrived Vorshlag S197 camber plates and Vorshlag/D-Force 18×10″ Mustang/Subaru wheel.
