            Re: Renting Mineral Wells

All righty then. People are beginning to ask about the details behind our practice event. Here we go:

            Where: Mineral Wells Airpark
            When: January 28, 2006, 8AM or thereafter
            Who: See attached spreadsheet
How (much): $25/person, check, cash or paypal (hancheyb@vorshlag.com)

            What:

            1. A full day of practice autocross with timers. Schedule is tentative.

            8AM-9AM: Setup

            9AM-12PM: Practice makes perfect!
The morning will be geared towards practicing! We'll set up a skidpad, slalom, oval with increasing/decreasing radius turns, maybe other options depending on the number of cones we have. We have 200 cones is that enough? I hope so.

            12PM-1PM: Lunch, reset course.

            1PM-we're tired:

Set up one big course from the practice pieces from the morning. We'll do our DL-1 experimenting here. Drivers pull off to designated pit stall, get the DL-1 installed and do their runs. Everyone else can take turns getting in line, shagging cones, etc.

            Additional fun for the day:

-We'll have the scales out there and alignment tools if you want to check both. I'm sure they won't be leveled.

7PM: Dinner at the Hanchey's, review any video and/or pictures on the DLP, initial DL-1 analysis maybe?

            Parker, TX 75002

EDIT: Just talked to the guy that rents MW. He said the fires came up on two sides of the track, but everything is OK. Luckily someone moved his trailer of cones and street sweeper or else they'd be cooked.

I likely won't have anything this side of Hertz to race, but I'll be out there.

I won't be able to attend the dinner/party festivities as it's Amber's 30th B-day Tradition and the party is supposed to be something huge....

Apparently I already need a new column for my spreadsheet. Houston boyz are showing the way. hehe BTW, you don't have to use PP if you don't want to.

Heck, with all the grass ON the tarmac, a little fire might have helped clean the site up a bit

Edit: My friend from Sunday School might come just to see how it all works. He said he'd bring his pimp daddy DSLR and rent a 400mm lens. I think it would be great to set up and take the exact same picture of each car in the same turn. Look at tire deflection, etc. CLOSE UP. hehe

                              Re: Renting Mineral Wells

One of the neatest vids I have ever seen of an autocross was an old one that John Walsh (wow...haven't said THAT name in a while) did.

He put a camera inline with a slalom and took vid of each car for an entire autocross run group. Then he edited it to ONLY show the car as it rounded the first cone and thru to the last cone, then it jumped to the next car. It was probably 2.5 minutes of just slaloming and you could so easily see who stayed tight, the differences in two driver cars, etc.

                              It was sweet.
