Vorshlag E46 LS1 Kits Shipping

Did you know Vorshlag designs, builds and sells a lot more than just automotive suspension solutions? We’ve been building V8 swaps for over a decade, and now we’ve got parts for the BMW E46 chassis added to our catalog (see the current E46 parts here).

That’s right, we’re shipping production parts for our LS1 swap kit made for the BMW E46 chassis. The wait is over… Vorshlag has the fix for your BMW motor woes! The E46 LS1 swap announcement is detailed in this forum thread, linked here. If you like our LS1 swap projects, subscribe to that (it is also posted on corner-carvers, Bimmerforums, and SCCA Forums).

In that thread we also talk about many of the new E36 LS1 swap parts we’ve developed in the past 12 months, and what we have coming next for the E36, E46, and other chassis. We will update this thread whenever we have any new V8 swap parts.

Gentlemen… start your engines!

2013 Product Update to Vorshlag Competition Motor Mounts

Vorshlag designs and builds a line of modular, bolt-thru, competition style motor and transmission mounts for various BMW chassis with BMW motors, which we introduced back in 2006. These are meant to replace the soft rubber and/or hydraulic filled “luxury” driveline mounts that the factory uses in these sports/luxury cars. We designed these to be compliant with various SCCA class rules that stipulated a “maximum metal content”, but the rules changed in 2013 so we change our design to reflect the rles update.

More metal was added to the CNC machined aluminum base, which better supports the bushing insert (polyurethane or Nylon) on the E36/46/92 M3 version. You can see the added metal int he ghosted picture of the assembly, above. The assembled polyurethane E36/46/92 mount is shown below.

As always, you can read much more about this product and the 2013 update at this Product Announcement Post on the Vorshlag Forum.

Vorshlag Wins at Car Show and Autox

The folks at Vorshlag are always looking for new events to enter with our “project cars”. On the May 18-19th weekend we did a double header with a car show on Saturday and an SCCA autocross on Sunday. We ran in a new class for the autox, which looked impossible to compete it, and just squeaked out a win with our “jack of all trades” 2011 Mustang GT (which is primarily built around the NASA TT3 ruleset). The car show produced another win and a trophy for the same car. Who knew?

The autocross was a good test for a lot of new parts, with this being the first change we had to carve cones on the Torsen T-2R and Whiteline LCAs and relocation brackets. Good fun, and good test data. Our Mustang Project Build Thread has a write-up of these two events, a brief introduction of a new shock brand we are stocking/selling, and some pictures of various other new S197 products we are developing. You can read more about in the latest forum update, located here.

Oh look… more shiny toys! We are now a dealer for Carbotech brake pads, Centric rotors, MCS shocks, COBRA seats and more. As always we race (and stock!) when we sell, and only if it tests well in racing. Thanks for reading!

Mustang Sets TT3 Record at NOLA

We had another good NASA Time Trial event in May with a double win and new track record in TT3 (this car’s 4th track record in a row this year). The Vorshlag crew had a great time down in New Orleans that weekend and there’s an extensive write-up with lots of great pictures, in-car video, and gator sightings.

You can read all about it in this Vorshlag Mustang Project Thread forum update.

S197 Mustang Thread Updates and More

We have had a lot of forum updates in the past week. First up was a massive 4-part post covering product and race updates on our two S197 Mustangs, a NASA race event (with another win and TT3 track record in the books), and our own Amy Fair even made it on TV – with some interviews and race video of her driving at an SCCA Solo event, as seen on Mobil1 The Grid.

S197 Mustang Thread Update – Our build thread (co-posted on 4 forums) has been updated in a huge 4-part post, starting here at the Vorshlag forum.

A classic E38 series BMW 740il (above) was added to the fleet (which you can read about here) as well as a GMC Sierra 1500 (below) that will serve as the Vorshlag “shop truck”, used to ferry parts around from various suppliers and dealers (read here).

S197 Mustang in SCCA Solo: STX vs STU vs ESP? If this sounds like a subject you are interested in (if you can even understand that word salad!) then check out this thread Fair created on the S197 forums, located here.

Plenty of reading material for you to while away your day. Enjoy!

Shopping Cart Down and Backorders Shipping

There was a temporary glitch with our online shopping cart that started over the weekend (March 2nd) but we should have that resolved today (March 4th). If you need to order something that absolutely has to ship out today please give us a call at 972-422-7170, otherwise try the shopping cart again this afternoon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We have also started building and shipping some models of Vorshlag camber plates that have been on backorder for a few weeks due to some delayed parts from a supplier. We worked over the weekend assembling dozens of sets of plates and we should be caught on these up by no later than March 6th, with orders shipping out in the order they were received. Thanks for your patience!

Edit: the shopping cart is fixed (March 4th)

Vorshlag Review of the BFGoodrich Rival Tire

Vorshlag owner Terry Fair was lucky enough to snag an invite to the BFGoodrich Rival Tire launch and test event, Jan 22-23, 2013, held at the NOLA Motorsports park in New Orleans, LA. Read the review, linked here, to see what our thoughts are on this tire from first-hand driving on 4 different cars and multiple driving formats: skidpad, two autocross courses, and on a 2.75 mile road course.

We were able to drive on the three BFG models shown above, with the Rival falling in the middle of the BFG Sport-COMP 2 and R1-S. The Rivals were then matched head-to-head with the Hankook R-S3, Toyo R1R and Falken RT-516K, with some drivers testing on the Dunlop Direzza ZII. Cars driven included MX5 Cup cars, Subaru STIs, BMW E46 M3s and Ford Mustang FR500S race cars.

In this lengthy review Terry talks about each tire driven and mentions the obvious tires that weren’t there. The review took almost two weeks to write, edit and publish. Lots of pictures, video, lengthy discussions about the various tires’ driving characteristics, potential BFG tire contingencies, and talk about some new tires that are not even out yet. You can start reading our review here.

NASA TT3 and MSR-H Event

We have a big Project Thread Update for the Vorshlag test mule S197 Mustangs, a two-parter. First we cover the changes (improvements) to two of the NASA TT classes (TTA and TTS), which we have exploited to the fullest with a move “down” a class in our 2011 Mustang GT. This finally lets this car run at the power-to-weight limit of a class, so we hoped it would be more competitive.

And our hopes proved to be true, as we took a double-win and track record at the January 19-20th NASA Texas Time Trial event at the 2.38 mile MSR-Houston road course, running our 2011 GT in the new TT3 class. The second half of this big Thread Update covers the event, from our perspective, and we have a LOT of insane race pictures (taken by our photo guru Brandon) and some video to share, located here.

S197 Mustang Thread Updates

We installed some monotube adjustable AST coilovers to our 2013 Mustang GT, then took this and 3 other cars to a track event in December – including our 2011 GT, the 2013 BRZ and our Firebird ChumpCar for its debut track outing.

Then we were able to do a before and after test on this 2013 GT with the OEM suspension vs the ASTs, looking at times from a previous event at this same race track a month earlier. Obviously the car was quicker but the magnitude of improvement might be “shocking” to some readers. We kept the tires and wheels and driver the same for both tests. Read more in this big, 2-part post starting here!
