  • Re: Renting Mineral Wells

I jsut wanted to say thank you to Brian and Terry. I thought the event was a success. Jeremy and I actually got some suspension tuning done and were able to determine what needs improvement (other than the loose nuts behind the wheel).

Tommy and Andy showed us what a National level driver can do, very impressive. Scary part was Brian was right there with them. EEK! I need to go practice now. I also have a codriver who is faster than me.

The DL1 data was excellent from the skid pad testing we did. We were able to not only determine that we had too much front camber (from tire temps across the tread) but also show the impovement in a numberical value.

Hope the next one is soon, possibly Feb 25th.

Nick and I decided not to come last minute. We were at my house, everything ready to go and most websites were saying rain until at least 9am and I checked flightservice and they said probably until at least 11am and the storm had been growing the past 2.5 hours.

I enjoy testing a ton, but I was not going to learn anything on wet pavement and driving 9 hours for a *chance* of some dry runs just was not enough.

Glad ya'll did get some dry runs in though and it sounds like it went well.

I'm setting this up on the "private" channel. Do not distribute. Talked to the guy that owns Mineral Wells. He said the day after we were out there, a Baylor car club (?, who'd a thunk it) set up the road course. They were allowing multiple laps on the ROAD COURSE and some BMW ran out of brakes, went off the course, kept going till he hit something hard and required the jaws of life and a helicopter to escort him out. He got away with a hurt knee, but just an FYI.

That is why I like the relative safety of autocross vs. lapping.

It was an Evo... not a BMW.

Obfuscation usually requires a lot more words than if you simply focus on fundamental principles, so I’m not at all surprised by the loquaciousness of liberals.

Good lord! I've lost my brakes out there more than a few times while hot lapping. That is some scary stuff. Something tells me he won't be able to salvage much from that car. The spoiler did survive though! That's been a pretty common thing in Evo crashes. It's the one thing that survives.

I asked Jeremy Foley to ask them to take that thread down. Not everyone will agree, but we're getting quite an amazing site out there and some will argue "free speech, we need to know these things, blah blah blah."

I don't want to see Bob have to start requiring insurance and/or jacking up the price. He told me he's been renting it for 22 years without a major incident. In some people's eyes, one incident will be one too many and threads like this can ruin a great thing.
