STX Mustang makes 392 whp?!

We had a local tuner shop re-tune and dyno test our 2011 Mustang, which is being prepped to SCCA’s STX class. This car made 367 whp bone stock with 500 imles on the clock but now makes 392 whp with a cold air and a tune. Exhaust is still 100% bone stock, as is everything else. They tweaked the throttle mapping also, so hopefully we can use that power on corner exit without it being an on-off throttle switch. Two autocrosses this weekend, including the National Street Tire Challenge, where we can test the new programming as well as an unusual, new wheel and tire combo. You can read the entire forum update here.

More learned in the 5.0 Mustang

Another weekend of racing, this time at a 2 day SCCA Divisional autocross event, has taught us a lot about the latest set-up changes to the 2011 Mustang GT we are campaigning in STX class. We’re using this chassis to develop new suspension parts with. We tried out the 265/35/18 Hankook RS3 for the first time, but the new throttle map programming was a FAIL, and I was sideways for most of the weekend. The new “trick” we learned at the last Test-n-tune of up-shifting to a higher gear to avoid wheelspin once again worked, and is our “crutch” until we can get the throttle mapping corrected. You can read more here, and you can also get to the 550+ pictures and 8 in-car videos from this event.

AST Suspension purchases Moton

Big news! Moton is now owned by AST, but is going to retain its own catalog of shocks. How does this affect Vorshlag? We have been supplying camber plates to Moton customers for years, know the product line well, and we will become a Moton dealer – with their shock products on our website soon. The Moton USA headquarters is also moving 5 miles down the road from us. Read more here.

Mustang Poly Bushings + Auto-x

We recently installed Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings on the Mustang’s front LCA, which we now stock and sell for the S197 Mustang chassis, among others. Then autocrossed the car one more time, fighting through a tight course with the Toyo R1R tires in cooler temperatures. We’ve got a write-up on the installation of the bushings as well as the event, plus pictures of new wheels and a rear wing that are coming next. Read more in the latest thread update here.

More progress on STX Mustang

We’ve spent the last 2 weeks adding new parts and developing the suspension set-up on our STX class 2011 Mustang GT. We’ve installed lighter 18×9″ wheels (class width limit), gone back to Toyos R1Rs from Yokohamas, switched brake pads & rotors, changed the shock valving, added a cold air kit and a tuner with a custom program (first horsepower mods), installed an Eibach adj front swaybar, upped tire pressures all around, softened the rear spring rate and lowered rear ride height. Whew! You can read more about the suspension progress and see our latest autocross report (which had a hitch or two we fixed on-site) in the latest forum updates HERE. An in-car video from the latest autocross is also linked below. Thanks for reading.

March Madness! 8 events in 4 weeks

The E30 V8 was updated & rebuilt, autocrossed, then tracked twice, then broken again. The ’11 Mustang GT saw its first autocross, then 2 more, plus a number of track events, and drag raced as well. We have lots of information & pictures from each event and the various updates done to both cars in the mega-thread post covering all 8 events we attended in March 2011. Please see here for more.

Vorshlag E30 V8 revived for $2011 GRM Challenge

Our BMW E30 with the 5.3L LM7 V8 swap has sat in the corner of the shop for months, broken and ignored. After it (twice) shattered drivetrain parts at the drag race portion of the GRM $2010 Challenge event (Oct 2010), and killed our chances at a top 5 finish, we haven’t touched the thing. We recently found another 5-spd transmission and Costas cracked it open to inspect it closely…

Vorshlag goes drag racing in 2011 Mustang GT!

After adding the optional CS lower fascia and a CDC rear trunk panel cover on Friday, we went Saturday Feb 19th to the Dallas Raceway 1/4 mile dragstrip. Our otherwise stock 2011 Mustang GT 6-spd 5.0 car and managed a 12.92@108.6 mph, which we were very happy with!

Read more about the recent parts added and the drag strip runs (including lots of pictures and video) in this project forum post.
