Well, I can bring my generator if we want power. We're bringing the truck/trailer so we'll have bigshade(tm) also. I was already planning on the generator as I hate running the lappy off the truck/invertor since we'll be doing DL1 stuff.
Sadly, Scratcher stays at home this trip as Nick and I need to dial in the b4c on hoozerz (I've never run on them) so we'll focus on that. Add in the fact that I haven't dodged cones since March (and I've done all of two autocrosses this whole year) and I've got plenty of practicing to do.
Also, Scratcher has already been cornered...and all four are within 10 pounds of each other!! Awww yeah!!
Vorshlag Test-N-Tune Invitational Practice Event, Saturday August 25, 2007
=======================================
Welcome! If you are seeing this and were invited to attend this test-n-tune practice autocross being hosted by Vorshlag Motorsports, please contine to read!
Location: Mineral Wells Airpark
Time: 7am to 3:30 or 4 pm (its gonna be hot!)
Cost: $25 per driver
What you get for your $: Track time on 4 courses, we'll have cold water, some set-up tools you can borrow, and 4 corner weight scales. Note: to use the scales you either have to be supervised by Vorshlag employee or have the last name "Costas".
The 4 Course layouts include:
150' diameter skid pad at the NW corner, set-up up first (to get cold weather temp testing). Please limit laps to 5 or less at a time, pull off to interior for tire temp testing.
Slalom: 10+ cones, 60' spacing, set-up in the SE corner. Please limit to one run heading north, turn around and drive back to the start line.
Increasing/Decreasing Oval: To be set-up in the NE corner. Please limit to 4 laps at a time, or 2 laps in each direction, then get back to the start line
30 sec autocross course: Based on previous courses by or possibly even set-up with the direction of Andy Hollis. If we use Andy's timers there will be 2-4 laps per driver at a time, using a single start/finish line. Flying lap times are (usually) printed for viewing after your runs. If someone is on the PA and announces times, great. This isn't a competition, no trophies, etc. :]
Vorshlag has run practice events at MW using these 4 course layouts 6 times over the past 2 years. Please don't ask us to set-up something "special" because we can't monitor re-setting up goofy or dangerous elements/courses and we also need time to test our own cars. These 4 elements work well and are fairly easy to self regulate. Also, this isn't the SCCA, ER, etc. - its a Vorshlag event. Be safe, be courteous, be smart, and please follow the handful of rules we have:
Don't be a messy autocrosser - pick up after yourself. We won't have corner workers so if you hit cones, shag them immediately following your runs. If you are next in line and see someone knock cones down, a short "toot" of your horn after they pull off will let them know they have cones to reset.
Don't drive around with loose crap in your car. Or broken cars. ... tech yourself. You are all adults. :] Throw a number on the side if you want, or not.
Please no kids, animals, and if you bring friends that aren't driving, please keep an eye on them. We don't need random people wandering around, driving across a course, etc.
If you do something stupid, or someone runs over your tire gauges, or you skin your knee - please don't sue us.
There will be an obvious waiting line for elements (often times it will be empty). Please line up and wait your turn. And once you start en element, wrap it up in 2-4 laps and move outta the way.
Wear a helmet, unless it messes up your hair. Be smart, be safe.
If we see any jackassery such as: someone practicing "drifting" and knocking down all of the cones, someone trying to be the new big boss of the event because they are an official grand poo bah in some local club (or stayed at a Holiday Inn Express), or someone not abiding by the simple common sense rules listed above, we might ask that person to leave. This is a practice for experienced, serious autocrossers that are prepping for Nationals. There should be no newbies or squirrels in attendance. And please - don't invite more people to attend (for driving; supervised spectators are OK) because the event is full. The event is to be run rain or shine. Please have your $25 ready in cash or check. We can do credit card processing on site if you forget either of those, also. We've lost money on several practice events in the past, often times because we don't get payment from everyone. This isn't an event to make us money, its a practice event that we invite others to join in to help cover costs.
