  • Solstice GXP Potential A-Stock Monster

In case anyone cares; I took the GXP to a Denver auto-x at Coors Field on Sunday and ran the street tire index class. Bob Klingler and Barry Ott where running Bob's S2000 (both Former National Champs in different cars). I think I had the advantage in the tire department but they had the expirence with the car and setup.
I took 3rd behind them with some eratic driving while trying to learn the car. Bob and I had cone trouble but in raw time the Solstice is right there; half second spread between the three of us. If you are looking for a buy a drive car I highly recommend the GXP.

    Next steps:
    1. Race alignment (haven't done that yet)
    2. Race rubber and wheels (saving ~7 lbs per corner, rotating mass)
    3. Go Dog Go!

    Future:
    1. Exhaust replacement if I can get it past the boss. ~22 lbs savings and I've seen one system with dyno runs of +20 hp and 20 lbft to the wheels
    2. Shocks?

Car looked pretty good yesterday (especially with Kami driving ).

    definitely needs tires.
    definitely understeers.

Ya'll later runs looked like you were getting more comfortable in it... which is good. You won't have that kind of grip / surface in Houston though.

      Thanks
I don't want to mess with alignment more until we get some more seat time and race tires, but I may end up doing some toe adjustments sooner

I just had it aligned, I need to adjust the nut that connects the steering wheel and pedals to the seat
Front right now is -2 degrees camber with 8 degrees of caster and no toe.
Rear is -1.5 degrees camber and slight toe in

Wow, that's a good start on camber and caster... but I heard they can get up to -3 camber. More is always better!

Is camber easily adjustable trackside? More than -2 would wear street tires...

I'd tackle light wheels next and of course R compounds. Then shocks, front bar, then exhaust.

I have been running -3 degrees of camber on the street for two years and haven't had any problems with tire wear. So long as you have zero toe you should be fine.

And how often do you replace street tires? 3 degrees is too much for decent street tire wear unless you're replacing tires every year.

That might explain the noise you're getting from your Falken 452s that I don't have. I remember you saying "Must be my car.", but it could be the alignment...just a thought.

FK-451's lasted about 22K but they were prematurely ruined due to incorrect toe setting driving back from Nationals last year. Had that not happened I think they would have lasted 30K (2 years).

Turns out it is the car, tires are fine.

2 years may work if you drive 4mi a day, but I ran -3* on my SS and wore clean through the nylon on the inside of a set of F1 GS-D3s. Never again...

I have had my car for two years last month and 38,000+ miles. And as I said before, ZERO toe. I assume you wore out the very inside of the tire Cody (the last inch or so)? That is a toe problem.
