OK, I would not have believed it but here is a pic.

That is what is in the car now. I was wondering if there was any reason to go with stiffer bushings?

Car won't be driven on the street much, except driving to events. I think I will try swapping them to the Nylon ones.

Have you guys tried swapping out the rear subframe, diff and rear trailing arm bushings for stiffer durometer bushings?

Always read the numbers on Tire Rack with a HUGE grain of salt...

I've measured the D-Force 17x9 at 16.6 pounds. I have yet to weigh anything bought from TR and had it be close to what they claim.

I have not seen a BBK that the 17x9 D-Force cannot clear... well, I guess a 14" rotor might need to go for 18" wheels.

I am thinking that 255/40-17 Dunlop Direzza Z1 StarSpec tires would be the way to go for now, as the car came with a set of them in 245/40-17, and I am really impressed with them.

Someone mentioned on Bimmerforums that the MT1-R might be better for clearing aftermarket brake kits.

That's an 18x9 and 255/35/18. All kinds of room with max-legal-flattened fender lips - those are my street tires.

18x10 and 265/35/18 Bridgestones. Note: these are a good 10mm narrower than the Yokohama "265". They rubbed under bump travel, front and rear. A 265mm Yokohama would likely rub badly, even squeezed onto the STX maximum width 9" wheel...

And then you'd have to wonder "is that extra tire width wasted on a 9" wheel?" I would say YES.

This 18" / 265 set-up worked pretty well for autocrossing, but it was still a compromise (rubbing).

On an 18x9 the same 265's could probably fit the car better... but the tire wouldn't fit the wheels worth a damn.

This is a tough question. The 255/40/17 works well on a 17x9 (D-Force 5 spokes), but better on a 17x9.5 (custom 3-piece wheels). We ran this sized tire on 8.5", 9" and 9.5" and the 9.5" had the best response, wear, etc. The 17x9 was so much cheaper and lighter, though... cast racing wheel vs 3-piece (which tend to be somewhat heavy + expensive). Its hard to argue against the 17x9 and 255 combo...

    This 17x9 and 255/40.17 set-up just... worked.

Yea, I am not a fan of running uber tall tires to fix gearing - these tend to handle differently (more sidewall = different spring rate for the tire) plus they are always heavier. And on an E36 a tall tire like a 245/45/17 or 275/40/17 can and usually does rub in several places, when lowered adequately for STU use.

This is the tough call for STX competitors.... 17" and 255mm or 18" and 265mm. I think the width restriction of 9" for STX pretty much dictates using the 17" set-up and the commonly available 255s.

the pictures of the M3 seem to be gone. after doing some searching I saw a picture of a white M3 with red numbers. is this the car or were there better up close shots of the car?

What if you ran with your sunroof fully retracted? That weight would be farther back on the car...?
