  • New Camber Plate and Perch Designs including HC1 High Caster Series!

We'd like to announce several new aluminum alloy camber plate designs we've made in the past month for various existing models that incorporate additional caster offset. These include prototype plates for the Subaru GD Impreza, Subaru GR Impreza/Legacy, Evo 5-9, and Evo X models. These are all on Tester's cars and so far they are all very happy with the increase in positive caster.

These new designs maximize positive caster offset and add even more additional positive caster, with the centerline of the strut moved from .450" to 600" rearward. This additional caster is on top of these designs' already higher-than-stock caster offsets that our previous designs included, for a total of +1.5 to +2 degrees over stock in many cases. We will publish final caster settings once they are correlated from our various testers.

As with all camber plates designed and built by Vorshlag, a custom upper spring perch is included that has a pressed-in, sealed radial bearing to remove steering loads from the spherical bearing in the camber plate. For coilover springs we make all new perch designs for the 3 most common coilover spring sizes: 2.25" ID, 60mm ID, and 2.5" ID springs.

Left: Vorshlag plates with 2 styles of coilover perches: Right: Vorshlag OEM style upper perches for a BMW model

The OEM style perches that many folks use are a different story, and are more complicated to reproduce with their strut centerline offsets and/or off-horizontal spring placements. In the past we have simply taken a new OEM spring perch, bead blasted them, welded our bearing retainer ring to it on a fixture, bored the center hole for strut clearance, had the new perch plated, then pressed in our radial bearing and one of dozens of custom adapter spools to fit the specific upper strut shaft profile. This technique didn't work for some models, so we've now moved to a completely CNC built replacement perch for some OEM spring perch designs. The Subaru GD perch below is the first of many of this new style going into production, to be followed shortly by the Subaru GR Impreza/Legacy OEM style perch:

The first GD set has been on a car for weeks with great results. Finally, a quality camber plate for people with lowering springs or OEM springs!

We've also added new OEM style perches for the S197 Mustang camber plate design which is also under testing; currently the first set is on Stuart's (of Vorshlag) 2006 GT. The Black 18x10 CCWs look right at home, and the entire setup will look even better once his ASTs arrive. The same Vorshlag S197 Camber plates will work with the coilovers with little more than a spring perch change:

Stay tuned for more camber plate updates on these models. Once these go into full production we will update this thread to let you know. The final production HC1 camber plate designs will be fully engraved and anodized (in black, but possibly in a different color?) and the final GD & GR OEM style perches will be clear anodized.

    More soon!

Sweet looking Mustang. Is that just a nice daily driver or what SCCA class does it run?

Some data from running the new HC1 plates on the EVO X:

      • Stock caster: 4.5°
      • Caster with Vorshlag V1 plates: +5.4°
      • Caster with Vorshlag HC1 plates: +6°

Going from the V1 to HC1 plates in back to back autocross events at the same site the data logger showed .2" less front spring deflection under braking, meaning, the car showed less brake dive. This change in caster improves the instant center.

Right now its his daily driver but he has plans o run it in NASA TT for sure, and maybe SCCA...

More data from the HC1 version of our EVO 5-9 plates, as tested by Craig Wilcox on his BSP EVO 8:
...the Evo worked absolutely perfect in Lincoln this past weekend with the newly setup coilovers (and HC1 plates). Caster ended up being +5.2 degrees on the new plates.
Here's the numbers from the HC1 version of the Subaru Impreza GR plates on Paul Magyar's 2008 STI:
(Positive) caster with the aftermarket offset lower control arm bushings is +8.5°. I think with the stock bushings you could get +7.9-8.0°. Nice work guys!

I need to check with Barry Booker and see what his final caster stats were on the HC1 plates on his GD Subaru WRX, but his driving impressions were very positive.

          Hey guys,

Finally found out how to log on. The new plates on my WRX work great, caster is at 4 degs now. 1/2 deg of change is very noticeable less front end lift under acceleration and less nose dive under braking. Now for the offset bushing in front control arm for 1/2 deg more! Kind of like a drug once you get a little you always want more
