  • SCCA at TMS Road Course 10-15-06

Sorry about the lack of a reminder on this forum, but I only found out about this event on Saturday and Amy and I co-drove it with Paul on Sunday. Best autocross course at TMS EVAR! TMS infield road course with some slaloms thrown in for good measure. Still silly fast, rev limiter in the STi in 3rd gear. Yowsa! Stuck it in 3rd after first slalom/straight and left it there for the rest of the 62-ish sec runs.

Rained ALL DAY LONG. Less in the earlier run group, more second, and a little harder in the 3rd. We ran in 2nd. Paul had a smokin first run that ended up being unimprovable (and led the class into the 4th runs). He had max-cone-calls the rest of the day, with 10+ killed in 2 runs alone. Cone KILLING Machine! Punky had a great first run as well, that would have put her in 3rd for STU's largish class, but improved in increasingly wet weather to within 2 tenths of Paul's best. She did darn well for her first drive int he STi, me thinks, and won STU-L. I got a lucky fast 4th run that made for 6th in PAX. That car has got some PULL.

McCall's joined us in the RX8's Farewell Tour event, with some fast raw times thrown down by Jason. Yokohama Advans are pretty darn quick in the wet. STU beat BStock by 4 seconds - a class we don't always beat.

    Check the pics.

You must make a point to enter this event next year. The course would have been insane in the dry - insanely FUN! It was pretty darn fun in the wet, and fast.

Note to self: GO BUY RAIN GEAR. 3rd wet event of the year I got caught out in the rain.
Note to Paul: buy a girdle! (threw his back out in the pits)

      Jason's Plan-of-the-Week ™ is to:

      1) de-mod the RX8 back to stock (halfway done)
      2) sell the yard art known as The Nomad (horay!!)
      3) buy Melinda a cheap Jeep CJ (as a BRIBE)
      4) buy "Melinda" a new Mitsubishi Evo IX GSR-SE.
      5) turn Evo into a Melinda "co-worker-friendly" daily driver / STU prepped race car.

I like the whole idea except for the whole co-worker-ability part. I feel that this goal and "fully prepped STU Race Car" are mutually exclusive.

Yeah... nice job by the Texas region promoting this one. I found out about it on Thursday. Would have loved to have come up and run the M3 on that course... but 2 days notice ain't gonna get it done.

Agreed. Also, this event should have been cross-promoted at other auto-x club events for the past 2-3 months...

The SCCA Regional folks don't do a lot of things that promote or retain people, but I don't want to do it (too much work) so I can't complain much.

Yes, everyone MUST put this one on the calendar (like I did in February) for next year. It was a blast to be out there on the road course and not only was it fast, it flowed well. The RX8 and the shaved Advans worked great in the rain. Had Terry not pulled one out on his last run (which he didn't realize he had left and knuckleheads put the car up already hense we had to wait for them to finish the session but I digress ) Paul and I were neck and neck for best raw times. My best run that counted was dirty and I still finished 4th but in the end I keep nipping slalom cones. I did prove though that RWD can will work well in the rain

Yep, that is pretty much the plan. I do hear your point Fair about the daily driving the Evo but do remember that on some days she can take the truck or my work car if I don't need it. We have been looking around at competitive stock car classes and none of the cars appeal to us, especially MeL. The GXP Solstice came pretty close but call me a bit gun shy of trying an unproven car again.

Nice, so neither of you had a real run, but your raw times were at least close!

Re: SCCA at TMS Road Course 10-15-06

I had a 64.1 clean, a 66.x dirty (6 cones), a 63.2 dirty (3 cones), a 63.5 dirty (2 cones). Jason had a 63.5 dirty (2 cones I think) and Terry was standing on a 64.6 clean until the last run where he dropped two seconds for a 62.5 clean (we all think he missed part of the course =P). Amy had a 64.3 clean.

Overall I had a blast, one of the most fun autocrosses I have been to this year despite the rain and blowing out my back between my first and second runs.
