  • National Tours, not bad from Dallas

I was so excited after Sunday's event, I thought I'd look at all the NTs around:

    El Paso - Feb 26th
Walnut Ridge, AR - March 19th
    Houston, TX - April 2
    Atlanta, GA - April 30th
Topeka, KS - June 11th, OOPS. This is Toledo, OH Nevermind!!
    Denver, CO - July 30th

Kinda need to make one of these to be able to go to Nationals. Is there any one in particular Sunday's participants want to go to??

El Paso, Arkansas, new sites, could be trouble.
    Houston, a logical choice
    Atlanta, too far probably
    Topeka, possibly
Denver, a little far, but supposedly a great site

This year isn't looking good for me. I won't make El Paso. Too far for me and I don't want to take vacation time for it. At least, not more than one day. I don't think I'll make Houston because it's the same weekend as the Lone Star Rod & Kustom Roundup that I really want to go to. I may consider Topeka or someplace else, depending on my vacation time situation, but in all honesty, my car's not competitive so I'd likely forego it anyway...

I can recommend some good mexican restaurants in El Paso since I used to live there.

How about a hotel near the site that doesn't suck?

I think it is Cohen Stadium.

Mexican food restaurants that rock are also appreciated

I'm going to try to get to Houston so I can get my @ss handed to me. Any decent hotels close to the site?

There is a Fairfield right across the highway. I think there is an Amerisuites right next to that. Those are the 2 closest. The site is actually in Dickinson, Texas right off of I-45 south. That may help with hotel locations.

Whatever you do, don't stay at the LaQuinta in Texas City. What a freakin' hole

On the SCCA site, they have a hotel listed with a SCCA discount. It's a few miles from the site. Radisson Inn of El Paso. $60 a night w/discount.

Costas, myself, Todd, and others will be staying there.

For greasy, cheap mexican food, try: Chico's Tacos

For good regular mexican food (and I don't mean tex-mex), try: Avila's, G&R (mentioned in Texas Monthly as one of the state's best)or down near the border La Hacienda
Avila's has great nachos as well, plus free sopapillas (many have those free in El Paso).

For great drive-in greasy burgers and onion rings try: Charcoaler

For great steaks: Great American Land & Cattle or Cattleman's Steakhouse

For great BBQ: State Line BBQ (part of County Line chain, but inherently cooler due to being the only one to cross states)

For Italian: Cappetto's or Bella Napoli

A few of these have multiple locations, so check CitySearch for more. Also beware of a couple of smaller locations of American Land & Cattle that have reduced menus/aren't as good. The one I linked is definitely good.

I'm jealous actually, because the last time I went to ANY of these was 2001 when my friend and I drove his 330Ci from Houston to L.A. and back.

Also, there's a divisional down here in Pearsall (about 30 min. south of SA). I think a divisional still qualifies you for nationals, no?

                          Hey Opie

Soupdaddy is looking for someone to drive out to ElPaso with in a convoy. We have room as Frank Bryan got a job and won't be making it on this trip! To be honest, I don't expect a huge turnout but it's more fun than staying home!!

Yeah, I talked it over with the boss. She wasn't too keen on my going away for an entire weekend leaving her with a 7 week old. I'm going to be doing a couple of all week trips for work this month and next. I'll be in Houston for sure. I really want to go to Denver in July. The event is at Denver International Airport. Lot's o concrete. Road trip!!

I need a truck and trailer. We can't transport John and baby crap in the M3 and all the car crap. I think Emily would come to out of town stuff if I had a truck and trailer. Maybe I'm dreaming. I'm waiting for my friend to retire his '99 3/4 ton 454 Suburban. Get Batman to build a new motor. The family version of a Todd-mobile.

If you're for sure for Houston, let's talk hotels this weekend.
