  • Initial RX-8 set-up

While our RX8 purchase may still be in the planning stages, our thought is to find out how competitive it will truly be in STU without over-modding it for BS.

On paper it looks pretty good: 2900lbs, double wish-bone front, multi-link rear, 50/50 weight balance, 238 hp(about 190ish rwhp), and the ability to run 18x9.5s with 275s all the way around. It should be competitive but that is yet to be determined.

The initial plan is to build it to the extent of BS rules but purchase STU wheels and tires to begin with. If the car shows it can truly compete with STis, M3s, and Evos, then we can go ahead and mod it a bit more to take advantage of all the STU allowances. This is the great thing about Team Vorshlag and our diversity of STU cars here locally. If it is off the pace, then we use the STU wheels for the street and either run the stockers with R compounds or get some CCWs, etc. and run BS.

Here is the BS/STU mod list:

Koni Single Adjustable shocks - $600
    SSR 18x9.5 - $1900
    Falken Azenia 615 275/35-18 - $1000
Sipes/Team WTF Adjustable front sway bar - $200??
    Homemade Lightweight cat-back exhaust - $300
    4-point harness - $100

So $4100 gets the car ready to start running in the spring.

Thoughts or ideas about this plan?

homemade? They don't make lightweight RX-8 catbacks? Sounds a bit ghetto for a shiny new car with pimp SSRs.

Okay, $1700 is a bit excessive, but Titanium is the shizzle. You can be all stealth and fast like the SR-71. Oh, I forgot to mention that I like the idea of prepping to Bstock rules except for the wheels/tires. That way you can switch depending on the competition. Ideally you would be able to have a 3rd set of wheels with R-compounds to switch per event, but that's crazy talk.

Warning. A gentlemen named Mark Sipe is considering running STU now. He has a line on 18x9.5's for $300 each and a set of Advans. Doh! The semi good news is that he might be moving so we won't get beat up for long. He actually said he liked that we have so many participants here locally! That's a good sign, BUT the supplemental thing is bothersome to him. Suckage.

Mark's idea was about like yours Jason. I'd add springs though if you really want to try it and ditch the exhaust. MeL isn't going to like a buzzy car, it will be LOUD. Springs are SO EASY on that car, I hate you.

Let's see. We have 3 STi's in the family now. I know of two RX-8s and maybe a third. We only have one Evo in the family. Do I need to get an Evo just to equal it out? hehe

                Who's the 2nd RX-8 other than the Fair's?

And one of those STi's doesn't count since it never shows (that'd be me) !

Obfuscation usually requires a lot more words than if you simply focus on fundamental principles, so I’m not at all surprised by the loquaciousness of liberals.

Apparently the McCall's are looking into one!

So, exactly how much smack am I entitled to lay down should I beat one of the STU vundercars with my lowly STX beater?

So... Who's the second in the "I know of two RX-8s and maybe a third" Hanchey was talking about? I was assuming the McCall's was the "maybe a third." Or is Hanchey thinking about getting one and the McCall's RX-8 is a done deal?
