Another, better option is a mini "tire trailer" that is towed behind your car. It seems unusual but it is actually very convenient, easy to tow, and commonly done in the autocross world - why not for HPDE cars, too? I built two of the three tire trailers above (both the M3 and RX8, former competition cars of mine) and towed tens of thousands of miles with them. The basic trailer kit is about $400; the trailer hitches are light, simple and inexpensive; and this is safer and less unwieldy than stuffing wheels and tires in your back seat.
With the weather proof "truck box" you can securely store a jack, tools, supplies, and more. I made the "tire racks" from welded tubular steel, but I've seen this done with Home Depot parts just bolted together, also. Just a thought...
