Perhaps some of you have taken the time to research specs on which OE equivalent replacement clutch is the best for the money. Sachs? OE? other? Best clamping and/or lightest?
I need to put a new clutch in my car soon and I'm leaning towards Sachs, but thought I'd see if you guys had any insight as I'm still new to BMW's.
If only there were legal upgraded ones (M5, etc). oh well. Stock seemed to work fine, until it started to slip.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Best STU legal clutch?
I re-read Andy's comments and understand it is a fine line. Perhaps I Should have never mentioned clamping differences and stuck strictly on weight. I won't be doing any testing, just thought I'd see if others have as it seems some do look for every possible legal advantage they can (andy's build is a prime example).

Re: Best STU legal clutch?
Jon, you need to re-read Andy's comments. He used a clutch that was identical to one he knew at one time was specified by Mazda.
If a supposed "OE-equivalent" clutch is significantly lighter or has significantly more clamping force than OE, it is not "OE-equivalent". Just get the OE clutch and be done with it. If you did happen to find one that would provide a significant performance advantage (not likely), it would be illegal.

You VM guys seem hardcore enough to have possibly done this, which is why I'm asking here. I suppose Mike S. may have taken this extra step as well, I'll email him and see.

When it comes time to do mine, I'll definitely look into it more. Thanks for opening my eyes a bit more.

Re: Best STU legal clutch?
As I understand the rules you have to use the OEM clutch.
