{"id":1309,"date":"2017-07-07T12:50:23","date_gmt":"2017-07-07T20:50:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vorshlag.com\/blog\/?p=1309"},"modified":"2017-07-07T12:50:23","modified_gmt":"2017-07-07T20:50:23","slug":"ford-focus-rs-product-development-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vorshlag.com\/blog\/2017\/07\/ford-focus-rs-product-development-update","title":{"rendered":"Ford Focus RS Product Development Update!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Right after we finished our prototype Focus RS suspension (camber plates, monotube dampers, &amp; coilovers) and big tire upgrade (Forgestar 18&#215;9.5&#8243; and 275mm RE71R) we did our 2nd round of track testing to see how much improvement we made over the stock RS at MSR-Cresson&#8217;s 1.7 mile course. And only 10 months later we finally processed all of the video, data, and wrote updated the build thread &#8211; <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vorshlag.com\/forums\/showthread.php?p=58552#post58552\">starting here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Projects\/2016-Ford-Focus-RS\/i-GkrnRcj\/0\/428f3c05\/M\/B61G9637-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vorshlag.com\/forums\/showthread.php?p=58552#post58552\">massive 3-part forum update<\/a><\/strong> we cover the challenges of the 3rd gen Focus chassis\/suspension and how we overcame that with prototype camber plates and a modified Bilstein coilover suspension. With big spring rate changes, lots of camber, and more caster, we were able to stuff 1.5&#8243; wider wheels and +40mm of tire under this little AWD hot hatch.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Projects\/2016-Ford-Focus-RS\/i-bj5pMDv\/0\/61a2340a\/M\/IMG_3683-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The changes to handling balance were nothing short of miraculous. Gone was the heavy understeering car with computer woes, and now we had a damn fast little 4 door on our hands &#8211; less than a second off a C6 Corvette Z06 lap time we ran at the same track only weeks before! We show a lot of our MSR testing in this post to give a good comparison of where the little RS ended up.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Projects\/2016-Ford-Focus-RS\/i-4CXw2NV\/0\/aae18b6e\/M\/IMG_3698-M.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Todd raced the <a href=\"https:\/\/myshopassist.com\/\">MyShopAssist<\/a> RS for the rest of the 2016 season with <a href=\"http:\/\/driveusca.com\/\">USCA<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.optimabatteries.com\/en-us\/experience\/2016\/11\/2017-optima-search-ultimate-street-car-tentative-schedule\">Optima<\/a>m showed the car at SEMA, and even raced in the Super Lap Battle with <a href=\"http:\/\/globaltimeattack.com\/\">Global Time Attack<\/a>, which we cover in the forum thread also.
