I said the same thing. Turns out, we saw a bunch of cars at this event with the exact same configuration. The main thing you want is the diagonal going from the corner of the top of the main hoop over the driver to the corner of the bottom of the main hoop. The harness bar can be connected or not. I've seen the harness bar be curved for the driver and straight for the passenger too.

All the rules focus on the diagonal bar being straight and one piece. That's the primary requirement.

I've seen them both ways. Tech inspectors (and rules for that matter) don't really care either way as long as the down bar is in the proper location.

We debated this one back and forth but the seat/driver layout made the harness bar (offset rearward) and the diagonal in different planes. We checked and its fine for what we're doing (NASA TT), and have seen it done this way before. We may... may go back and add tubing to join these two. Have seen that done also.

Minus a few local ringers, everyone in front of us was a full out race car. I think another few sessions and fresh tires and we would have moved up significantly. It sure was fun!

We haven't weighed the car since the cage went in. We're guessing 2600 pounds.

This was from Saturday as I was learning the course. Sunday video would have been better. Several places where I figured out I could flat foot it on Sunday I was coasting in this video.

So... I'm guessing you guys have gone through classing assistance w/ NASA as to what class an E36 w/ LS1 ends up in for time trials... Was curious if you could comment on that.

I've found myself a 'too good of a deal to pass up' on a '92 325i that I'm thinking an LS1 might fit nicely into. Then Doug can just enjoy his E30 on his own...

Edit... found this link... I wonder who this 'Terry' guy is.

                  Hi Terry,

Your BMW E36 318 with a Camaro LS1, 5.7L, 300 hp/350 ft-lb motor swap will be assigned a new base class of PTB**/TTB**, with a new base weight of 2800 lbs. You will need to take modification points for any modifications to the motor and the chassis (that differ from a stock 318 base trim model chassis), including weight reduction below the new base weight. The standard transmission from a Camaro Z28 may be used without points assessment if needed for this swap.

Depending on your tire, suspension, aero mods, and final weight, this car may end up classing into our Super Touring 2 (ST2) and TTS classes. As well, a Dynojet dynamometer test may yield numbers that would surpass the limits of TTA and PTA as well (please see "Adjusted" wt/power ratio limitation rules in the PT and TT rules).

Please keep a copy of this approval e-mail as proof of your swap classing.

So w/ all your addtional points from the AST's and other upgrades.. where did you guys end up class wise?

                  Jon

We don't even know yet... we'll prolly run in TTR or TTU, it just depends on how we add up all the points.
