  • March Fastrack - Revenge of the BMWs!!!

    http://www.scca.com/documents/Fastra...k-mar-solo.pdf

These are some HUGE proposals! The rallye cars might finally loose some of their dominance.

    STREET TOURING
    • The following listing change proposal has been provided by the STAC and is being published for member feedback: Add the BMW E46 M3 to class STU. (ref. 07-001)
    • The following rule change proposals have been provided by the STAC and are being published for member feedback:
o Remove the word “single” from 14.12.3 in class STX. Note: this will allow any forced-induction configuration. - This puts the 135 in STU!!!!
o Change 14.12.4 such that the maximum tire size is 265 and the maximum rim width is 9.0 inches, for 2WD (FWD or RWD) only.

    STREET PREPARED
    • The SPAC is seeking member feedback on the following classing change proposals:
o Move from BSP to ASP, Subaru WRX STi and Mitsubishi Evo.
o Move from ASP to BSP, on a separate line from other models: BMW M Coupe, M Roadster, and Z3 (6-cyl) (ref. 07-44

That's the one giving me ALL sorts of crazy thoughts!

An M Coupe in BSP? Probably weighs 2800 pounds. Yeow, I want one.

The S54 got a crap rear diff ratio to slow it down. I think it was 3.15. S52 has a 3.23 or higher I think. I rode in a buddy's S52 M Coupe and it felt much more torquey than my S54. But the 7600 rpm redline was music.

So you now want to re-join the "shoe" club?

That and the E46 M3 going to STU actually gives some forgotten BMWs a place to play again. That's can't be anything but good for BMW suspension business!

This is very interesting.. It allows basically unlimited diff ratios due from the other 6 cylinder z3s. a quick look and I came up with this as potential update / backdates..

        3.07
        3.15
        3.23
        3.46
        3.64
        4.10
        4.27

Oh snap! That one ear'd diff would be in endless repair with a 4.27.

            Edmunds:

            Z3 Coupe = 2943 lbs
            M Coupe = 3131 lbs

So if they are on the same lines, UD/BD a Z3 Coupe with a S54 and a 4.10 diff??

My M Coupe weighed 2994 in A Stock trim and full size battery. So I bet you can knock 150 pounds off that Z3 number and get under 2800 pounds with one. 2800 pounds vs. a 3100 pound Corvette and a S2k at about the same weight?

Re: March Fastrack - Revenge of the BMWs!!!

Thought of some new points on this.

-Pretty sure 99% of all M Coupes with the S54 came with sunroofs. A few '99 - '00 were without, but almost everyone of them had it.

              UD/BD
-Only suspension differences you'd really need to change would be M bushings up front, M struts, M hubs f/r to get the brakes, and the Rear trailing arm is stiffer on the M.
-Track is 0.4" wider (no biggie)

Brakes are debatable, even non M brakes are great AND smaller/lighter. I think a '99 Z3 Coupe with a S54 is the way to build one of these. Coupe is 2.6 times stronger in torsional rigidity vs. Roadster. Altho a '99 Z3 Roadster would be CHEAP. I hate convertibles tho.

man, hope that STX 9" wheel change goes through I picked up an STX 328is last night:
                  http://www.briangt.com/gallery/328is
has no sunroof, and a good big of Vorshlag parts on it too.

How do the DA AST shocks compare to the Koni TC Kline DAs or Moton DAs?

                        Now we're talking.

As far as shock comparisons. TC and Moton both make very good products. What we're offering is a monotube, double internally adjustable shock using competition level parts for not too much more than a twin tube design and less than shocks that start with "O" or "M".
