  • VTPP Tester Mike Simanyi dominates SMOD (and his co-driver in SML, too!)

Big congrats to Mike and his team of drivers for winning the SMOD and SML classes at the 2009 SCCA Solo Nationals! I've uploaded all of the pictures we took of his car in his new VTPP Test Gallery. Here's a few of the best pics:

Mike drove the wheels off the car!

Chris piloting the car in a semi-wet run (yes, a 2WD car won with wet conditions!)

The hood is staying open via a special lightweight composite Euro prop rod

Warning: Winning your class at Nationals by large amounts can cause the condition known as permagrin

The car is very straightforward... no boost, 2WD, fairly light, conservative tire size. Mike's 1995 M3 used to be built for STU class racing but late in the 2009 season he switched to Street Modified class prep. He took a simple approach and built the car to be light, have a good suspension, use a reasonable tire width, and a high revving naturally aspirated motor. The car weighs 2600 pounds, has a built 3.0L motor with 300 whp, AST 5200s, Vorshlag camber plates, and a Mason rear shock tower brace. Tires are 285/30/18 Hoosiers on 18x10" wheels with custom steel wheel flares. Composite hood, trunk, and seats round out the weight removal.

    Congrats!

a mish mash of Metric Mechanic bits and others. euro ITB setup.

only makes 300hp to the rear wheels and about 275 ft. lbs.

proves boost isn't needed to win SM. and the courses were FAST
