STX GTI AST 41's + Vorshlag Camber Plate long term thread

Hey everyone,

Figured I should post up my on going thoughts/questions concerning my newly installed ASTs and camber plates. (Bought from employee of Vorshlag)

I am by no means a fantastic driver yet, but it is a work in progress.

The other modifications are a thick APR Rear Sway Bar, an increased boost tune when events allow it (non scca classed), catback exhaust, and 17x8 Team Dynamics wheels with 235/40/17 Kumho XS's.

Current Spring rates are 350 front / 250 rear

Well I finished the texas time trials, and I got a very interesting first test of the ASTs. First off is that the car, compared to my previous Bilstien Sport + Eibach Sportline setup, now has much much more body roll due to the AST's previous owner's softer spring package.

However, speaking of grip, oh my god. There is so much of it, I was constantly under driving the car. Instead of just pushing on through the body roll to the real limits of grip I would let off. However, one lap I did manage to get the tires to squeal more, using the available grip. I ran a 43.75 which was very quick. Up there with David in his C5 Z06 and Robert Jones' in his S2000 CR.

So now i need to, besides learning to drive through body roll, figure out what spring rates will work best to replace my softer set up.

Then I may still mess with ride height a tad, to see if I can get the center of gravity lower.

Even though the car would stay neutral and not really understeer, unless I lighted up the front wheels of course. Turn in remained very slightly delayed. I am currently running 0 degrees of toe in the front. So I think the soft springs are also effecting this as well.

All in all the setup is noticeably faster then the Bilstein setup. Me learning to drive it and tweak it is still a work in progress. Either way the car is much more rewarding to drive and the greater speed is certainly not bad either.

Drove the car again this weekend. It felt great but still a little rolly polly still. Started the morning session at 3 from closed on the front and 1 from closed on the rear. Tire Pressures were 34 Front 39 Rear.

Afternoon session I wanted the car to be a tad less twitchy in the rear. I went to 2 from closed on the front and dropped rear tire pressure to 38 and the car was much faster. I ended up over driving the car the first 2 runs and the 3rd I tried to calm it down but slowed to much. Final run I knocked out a 61.58 and even there I was still a tad slow through the back of the course. Car should have been in the 60's at least.

However it was pretty quick compared to most of the competition.
I came 6th out of 18 in class behind cars I normally would not have to compete with such as Ken and Jarett in Ken's E46 M3, and Shawn in his BSP Evo on street tires.

Now I just need to hear back from someone about how stiff of springs the shocks are valved to handle. To get the body roll a little sorted out.
