  • Brake Light Switch.. grrrr

Has gone out in my car for the third time now.

97 318i with 190k, I have replaced this damn switch 3 times now.

Anyone know of any tips or fixes? I would like to beef up the switch somehow so that it won't fail as often.

Brake light switches are pretty simple devices... and fairly consistent across most makes and models. Maybe you could find a different unit from a common domestic car and wire it in place instead? Just a thought. Those domestic cars can have replacement parts that cost a fraction as much and/or are much more plentiful and/or are more robust.

good idea! I will look into it.

The damn spring gets too soft on it and it fails to push the little knob out when the brake is pressed. Maybe I will tweak my current one with a badass spring.
