Camber Plate FAQ

Q: How do I adjust the Camber on Vorshlag Camber Plates?

A: Using a front jacking point, lift the front tire off the ground to take weight off the camber plate. Loosen the three mounting nuts on the top of the strut tower. Slide the plate to the desired camber setting. Torque the mounting nuts to 22 ft-lbs. Repeat on other side of vehicle. Many racers like to adjust their camber at the track during front tire & wheel changes, which only adds an extra minute or two per side to do. If you do this, we recommend that you have the car professionally aligned at both your "Race" and "Street" settings, and mark each for quick reference.

Q: What is the camber adjustment range on the Vorshlag plate?

A: The difference between the minimum and maximum adjustment is around 2.5°. The actual maximum negative camber achievable depends on the model and the ride height of the vehicle, but most lowered E36s will achieve around 3.5 degrees of negative camber at the maximum setting.

Q: How do I adjust the Caster on the Vorshlag Camber Plates?

A: There are three Caster settings. Caster is changed by removing the 4 countersunk screws in the top of the plate, moving the spherical bearing plate to the desired setting, and reinstalling the screws. Use a drop of Blue Locktite™ and torque the screws to 200 in-lbs.

Q: Do Vorshlag plates require regular maintenance? How about regular cleaning and lubrication?

A: No. The spherical bearing is a Teflon lined aerospace quality part that is designed to work with no lubrication. In fact greasing this bearing will actually shorten it's life by attracting dirt and grit. All Vorshlag spring perches use seals on our bearings.

Q: How long will the spherical bearing last? Can I replace them myself?

A: The life of the spherical bearing will vary depending on the type of service it's being used in, but the unit used in our plates is much stronger than many of our competitor's. Due to the special methods used to retain the bearing into the camber plate, we recommend that the plates be returned to the manufacturer for replacement of worn bearings. This service will be provided for a nominal fee.

Q: I currently have factory M3 springs on my car but I want to change to a true Coil Over spring in the future. Will I need to buy a different camber plate to do this?

A: No. The same Vorshlag camber plate will work with either type of spring. You will only need to purchase the proper upper spring perch to match your new springs and reuse your existing camber plate.
